Countries To Avoid When Dropshipping (With FB Ads)

Worldwide targeting can get you a lot of cheap clicks to your dropshipping store, this may look great to a beginner but what you might not realize is that these clicks often do your dropshipping store more harm than good. Here you will find a list of every country to avoid when dropshipping with or without Facebook ads.

Why We Avoid Dropshipping To Certain Countries

You want to avoid certain countries from your worldwide targeting because of the amount of high risk orders you will receive. Shopify has a built-in fraud detection system that will let you know when an order is high-risk. The algorithm has gotten pretty advanced so it’s wise to cancel high-risk orders instead of fulfilling them.

A high-risk order, when not canceled, almost always results in a chargeback. Chargebacks will cost you a lot of money but they can also result in the suspension of your Stripe or PayPal account, in which case you won’t be able to accept any payments at all through these processors.

So to sum it up, you want to avoid certain high-risk dropshipping countries because:

  • You will waste money on cheap clicks
  • You will end up with a bunch of fraudulent orders which, if you fulfill, can cost you a lot of money and the suspension of your payment processors
  • Fraudulent orders mess up your Facebook Pixel

Exclude These Countries From Your Facebook Ads:

1. China

China is one of those countries to avoid because it will result in a lot of high-risk orders but that is not even the main concern! Aliexpress does not ship to China.

I had to find this out the hard way myself when I still accepted payments from every country. I had an order come in from China and could not figure out how to fulfill it. To my surprise, I found out that Aliexpress doesn’t ship within China.

Aliexpress suppliers have a specific license that only allows them to sell products overseas, not within China. So they legally cannot ship within their own country.

You might think this is odd and that Chinese citizens can’t buy cheap stuff online but you’d be wrong. Chinese citizens buy their products from TaoBao/1688.com which is often a lot cheaper than Aliexpress.

TL;DR: Definitely do not target China with facebook ads because Aliexpress suppliers can’t legally ship within their own country.

2. Indonesia

Indonesia should be avoided from every facebook ad campaign due to their high-risk orders. No country has as many high-risk orders as Indonesia. This will result in constant chargebacks which can easily get you suspended from your payment processor. Not to mention it will badly affect your facebook pixel as these are not legitimate orders.

TL;DR: Do not target, Indonesia has too many high-risk orders

3. India

When targeting India with dropshipping facebook ads you get many, many clicks. This is the reason why many dropshippers still do include them. Whoever, these clicks will do you more harm than good. In the end, you’re still paying for trash traffic that leads to nothing.

TL;DR: Do not target, your conversion rates will be awful and unprofitable.

The rest of the list

China, Indonesia, and India are the big three countries to avoid for very specific reasons. The rest of this list will contain dropshipping countries that you should avoid due to reasons such as:

  • High-Risk Orders
  • Cheap clicks/bad conversion rates
  • They can’t pay online (no credit card)
